A Cello by Peter Wamsley
London c.1730-1740
Well known for great sounding cellos, Wamsley built this instrument with his characteristically round upper and lower bouts, and short C-bouts allowing for maximum internal volume for depth of sound; and yet they have a beautiful sweet brilliance that projects very well. The maker’s delicate, transparent varnish, often showing a very fine craquelure, allows flexibility of the plates which is required to produce long waves and a warm sound production.
